2018 is sure to be a great year for cruising as new ships are joining the cruise lines’ growing fleets. Whether you are looking for waterslides and go karts, or a moving platform at sea, this year will have a new cruise ship for you.

April 2018 brings a few new ships to sea. The first to launch will be the Carnival Horizon. At 133,500 gross tons, she is one of the larger ships in the fleet and can hold 3,960 passengers. While all of the classic Carnival amenities and restaurants will be onboard, the ship will also have activities such as the skyride, mini-bowling, pool, soccer, volleyball, ping-pong tables, ropes course, a multiplex with IMAX, Dr. Seuss Waterworks water park, and a serenity adult-only area. The second ship in the Vista-class of Carnival ships is pulling out all of the stops as they add the next ship to their fleet that boasts all of the fun to be had onboard.

The second ship to hit the ocean in April 2018 will be the Royal Caribbean Symphony of the Seas. The fourth ship to join the Oasis-Class ships will weigh in at 230,000 gross tons and have a passenger capacity of 5,475, and will feature the usual Royal Caribbean activities such as ice skating, the Aquatheater, and some of the fastest and largest water slides at sea. In true Royal Caribbean fashion though, they are always making their ships and their activities bigger and the activities onboard the Symphony of the Seas are no exception. The shows will be bigger, the slides will be faster, and there will be more activities for everyone to enjoy such as Playmakers Sports Bar & Arcade and Laser Tag.

The final ship to make waves in April of 2018 is the Norwegian Bliss. Joining the Breakaway+ class, the Norwegian Bliss will weigh in at 167,800 gross tons and have a capacity of 4,004 passengers. As the ship was built for an Alaska cruise market, she will feature a large observation lounge for guests to view the glaciers from the comfort of a spacious lounge. After the popularity of the race track on the Norwegian Joy, Norwegian decided to make the track on the Bliss even larger. Featuring over 1,000 feet of track and spanning two stories, the track will be the largest for the fleet not to mention the largest at sea. In addition to the track, the Bliss will feature multiple water slides, one of which will loop over the side of the ship for an even more exhilarating slide experience. Open-air laser tag, arcades, a casino and all of the activities that guests have come to love on a Norwegian ship will also be present as well as some new announcements are still being made about what is to come so we will keep you updated as more information is released.

The fourth ship to sail in 2018 will be the Viking Orion, the newest ship in Viking’s Ocean fleet, which will weigh in at 77,800 gross tons and hold 908 passengers. Like the other ships in the fleet, Viking includes a massive amount of amenities for their passengers and this ship will be no exception while also allowing guests to have the most current and luxurious ship in the Viking Ocean fleet.

The fifth ship to hit the ocean in 2018 will be the Crystal Endeavor, the first polar-class ship for the line and the largest megayacht at sea, weighing in at 25,000 gross tons and holding 200 passengers. The ship will cruise to destinations such as Antarctica and the Arctic Circle allowing guests to see these chilly cruise ports. Onboard, the ship will have two helicopters to allow for air excursions, two seven-person submarines, eight electric zodiacs, jet skis, wave runners, kayaks, paddle boards, and under water scooters to allow for guests to have a complete cruise experience.

The sixth ship to sail in 2018 will be the Azamara Pursuit, which is only the third ship in the Azamara fleet. The pursuit will weigh approximately 30,277 gross tons and hold 680 passengers. While Azamara will not be adding many new features to the Pursuit that are not available on their other two recently renovated ships, she will offer over 20 new ports that guests could not originally visit when sailing with Azamara. All of the classic Azamara benefits that guest love will still be available on the Pursuit and passengers will be able to experience all of the most updated features that Azamara has to offer.

The seventh ship to sail in 2018 will be Holland America’s Nieuw Statendam. The second new ship to join the fleet in the last few years, the Nieuw Statendam will weigh in at 99,500 gross tons and hold 2,650 passengers. Featuring the classic amenities and activities that Holland America guests have come to love, this ship will feature many amenities that were newly launched on the Koningsdam as well, including BLEND by Chateau St. Michele, America’s Test Kitchen, and BBC Earth Experiences.

The final ship to sail in 2018 will be the Celebrity Edge, which is launching in December 2018. The first new ship for Celebrity since 2012, they are still releasing details about what to expect, but the information that they have announced have proven that the ship will be unlike any other in the fleet. The first detail that was released was regarding the staterooms, including the very-popular infinite balconies, merging the stateroom to the verandahs for a more open atmosphere. Next, they announced the Magic Carpet. This platform that extends over the side of the ship can serve as a restaurant, nightclub, or tendering dock depending on which deck it is on. The final big announcement that has come about the ship is the Eden lounge. This lounge will serve many purposes but first and foremost, it will be a relaxing and innovative lounge for passengers to relax and enjoy the company of other guests. Celebrity is still announcing some of the features of the ship and we are anxiously awaiting the next one.

2018 is going to be a big year for the cruise industry and we can’t wait to see what else is to be released about these remarkable ships as their launch dates get closer.
